Decorators’ Showcase and Contests at SD Cookie Con & Sweets Show
SD Cookie Con & Sweets Show is Proud to Invite All Decorators and Sugar Artists to Showcase Their Work!
SD Cookie Con and Sweets Show is the West Coast’s BIGGEST convention for baking, decorating, and sweets. Our 2016 show was totally sold out and attended by sugar artists, event planners, trendsetters, bloggers, press and celebrities from around the globe. For our 2017 show we’re proud to unveil our Decorators’ Showcase and Contests to benefit Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles.
Sugar artists, help us assemble an extravagant display of your best decorated cakes, cookies, cake pops and blown sugar art. Your work will be seen by millions on social media and the web, plus our eager attendees, including our esteemed celebrity guests. A winner will be chosen in each category by a panel of judges and hosted by Duff Goldman.
This year we have four categories for your submissions:
– World Dessert Table Championships (Theme: Disney)
– Rock n’ Roll
You may submit any edible sugar art to these three categories. The tables are 6 to 8 feet long and draped in white tablecloth and skirting. Each competitor will have a 2’ area for their display and a sign with their name/business name and social media profiles.
You must set up your work between 8:30 am – 9:30 am on Saturday, September 16th. You may dismantle it when the show closes on Sunday, September 17, or leave it for the maintenance crew to dispose of.
The general public will cast votes for their favorites works on Facebook. The winners in each category will receive awesome prizes and trophies!
This is a friendly, charitable showcase with a focus on supporting Smile Train and Cookies for Kids Cancer and celebrating edible art — so beginners through professionals are welcome, as are team entries. Amateurs’ and professionals’ work will be grouped together as appropriate.
Click the button below to pay the $50 entry fee to be donated to the Smile Train and Cookies for Kids Cancer. Good luck!
Does my entry include my ticket to SD Cookie Con and Sweets Show?
Yes, your entry fee includes your Professional Weekend Pass to the show. If you have already purchased a Professional Weekend Pass, you may use this pass for your assistant, or request for it to be transferred to a General Admission Weekend Pass for your friends or family.
How much of my entry fee benefits the Smile Train and Cookies for Kids Cancer?
All entry fees, minus the costs of setting up the tables (paid to the decorator) and printing the little signs for each entry will go directly to the charities.
Do I need to stay with my entry?
No! Please feel free to enjoy the show, or go back to your baking.
I’d like to enter your 1st Annual Dessert Table Competition and other competitions. How can I do that?
The theme of the 1st Annual Dessert Table Championships is the Disney.
What is the theme for the showcase/competitions?
Wedding must be wedding-themed cakes or other sugar art. For all other categories — you have a lot of freedom to be creative! The Dessert Table Championship is using the Sci-fi theme.
What are the rules for Wedding Entry, Rock n Roll or Horror Entry?
Your work must fit in a 2×2 area and there can be non-edible items. You may not use pre-made sugar flowers, lace, etc. All work should be done by the competitor. No team entries in the Wedding, Rock n Roll or Horro Entry categories. Team entries are permitted in the World Dessert Table Championships (Disney).
Cookies for Kids Cancer
When 2-year-old Liam Witt was diagnosed with childhood cancer in 2007, his parents Larry and Gretchen were shocked to learn of the lack of effective treatments for pediatric cancers due to lack of funding. They pledged to support the funding of research for safer, more effective treatments for children battling cancer. With the help of 250 volunteers, his mom Gretchen baked and sold 96,000 cookies, raising more than $400,000 for research. Word spread, and people nationwide began asking, “How can I help?”
Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, a national 501(c)3 non-profit, is committed to raising funds for research to develop new, improved treatments for pediatric cancer, the #1 disease killer of children in the U.S. We provide inspiration and support for individuals, businesses and organizations to raise funds by hosting grassroots bake sales and other fundraising events.
Gretchen and Larry Witt founded Cookies for Kids’ Cancer in 2008. Their efforts have always been inspired by their son Liam’s battle with stage IV cancer. Tragically, Liam came to the end of his courageous 4-year fight with cancer on January 24, 2011 at the age of 6. Though devastated by his loss, the Witts remain more determined than ever to continue the fight against pediatric cancer. Gretchen Witt accepts speaking engagements with 100% of her speaker’s fees going directly to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer.
Smile Train is an international children’s charity with a sustainable approach to a single, solvable problem: cleft lip and palate.
Millions of children in developing countries with untreated clefts live in isolation, but more importantly, have difficulty eating, breathing and speaking. Cleft repair surgery is simple, and the transformation is immediate. Our sustainable model provides training, funding, and resources to empower local doctors in 85+ developing countries to provide 100%-free cleft repair surgery and comprehensive cleft care in their own communities.
We use the “teach a man to fish” model focusing on training local doctors to perform cleft repairs in their communities. Those doctors then go on to train other doctors creating a long-term, sustainable system.
Patients see their smile for the first time, parents cry tears of joy, lives and communities are changed forever.
As a result of our efficiency and with the support of our donors and partners around the world, Smile Train has transformed the lives of more than one million children by giving them the power of a smile.
Join us and change the world one smile at a time.
